I gave the afternoon keynote at BookUp, the Australian Publishing Industry's annual industry conference in Melbourne. My talk ‘Seen or unseen: metadata, AI, and the future of Australian discovery’ was about the technology deciding which books get recommended, and which publishers have almost no visibility into.

AI recommendation systems trained on US and UK data decide what Australian readers find, and I shared what publishers can do about it.
